I use this mortar and pestle to grind my dogs medication so that I can mix it with meat that she will, hopefully, eat. Some of the things that I like about this mortar and pestle is that the grinding surfaces are a bit smoother than the ceramic mortars and pestles I have used in the past. The surfaces are rough enough to allow for pulverizing the pills but smooth enough that I feel as though all of the medication sticks to the meat when I mix that into the powder I have created. I also like how heavy this mortar and pestle are. It never tips or scoots around the counter top when I'm using it. The foam mat stuck to the bottom of the mortar does a great job of protecting my stone countertops. Although I am not using mine for cooking, I think it would be a great size for grinding spices. Large enough that things wouldn't be spilling over the sides while small enough to fit easily out of the way when not in use. The whole things washes well both in the dishwasher and by hand. I am pleased enough with the purchase that I'm back to buy a second one for my son to use in his kitchen.

I will use this mortar and pestle in the kitchen for reducing the particle size of various herbs and cooking ingredients and mixing them to the desired consistency. The mortar has a deep concave bowl that fits the curvature of the pestle properly for even surface contact. This is a heavy piece of metal that will stay in place when triturating ingredients. It may take two hands to pick it up to empty it directly. I anticipate I will use a silicone spatula or spoon to empty it without picking it up. As a retired Pharmacist, I appreciate this new item for use with my food preparation. I will say it would do a quick job of crushing pills up also. The $16.59 Black Friday special price sure seem like a bargain.

The media could not be loaded.  This morter and pestle set is pretty heavy. I got the large one and I love it. My guess is, it weighs 2 or 3 pounds. It's easy to wash, and use. I highly recommend it.

Sturdiness.This mortar is solid.. The size is practicalI ordered the large .but to me the size is perfect .not too big and not too small.I highly recommend .

I wasn't sure about the size since most of stainless steel mortar is smaller than this one but this is just perfect for me. It's not too big nor too small. With the plastic cap, I don't have to worry about any mess when I grind anything. It's a bit heavy to hand wash for me and since it is supposed to be heavy, I just put this in dishwasher rather than hand wash, which can be much faster. I definitely recommend for anyone who needs practical mortar in the kitchen.

Able to see so many scratches inside after a few use.

The mortar is a nice quality and the lid fits well. The lid has a hole in the center to accommodate the pestle, which was missing from my order, rendering the product somewhat useless :(

I ordered two more for my sisters and they love it.
