MSR Dragonfly? Buy it now and don't look back.
The Quietstove was a balm for me. Last year I purchased a MSR Dragonfly to accompany my Universal Wisperlite so we could cook for a total of 12 backpackers faster. I love both stoves for their different primary functions, but the Dragonfly is significantly louder than every other stove I've ever used in 45 years of cooking on the trail. Even louder than a butane fueled Jetboil - which I use at lower altitudes for different reasons -(virtually instant coffee anyone?) Let me be clear - the noise of the MSR Dragonfly was not enough for me to return it for a second Whiperlite, but enough that I wished it to shut up and let me drink my coffee in peace. The factory plate over the gas outlet does its job of diffusing the flame respectably but does so with a roar that will literally wake everyone within 100 feet. It was my alarm clock more than once. At least I didn't miss breakfast, right? There's my silver lining. My crew and I used the Quietstove / Dragonfly combination over the next 300 or so miles of backpacking this past year. The Quietstove solved my only inconvenience with the Dragonfly. It rendered the stove silent, well silent enough to allow nearby campers to sleep and to maintain a normal speaking voice while preparing food. The stove's performance was on par with the factory pieces from sea level to 10,000 plus feet. Maybe a few seconds longer to boil water, but significantly more quiet and we quit yelling while making breakfast, much to our sleeping neighbors relief. Also, if your sole purpose is to boil water - the Dragonfly is not the better option. The Whisperlite will win every time in a white gas stove. The Dragonfly is used to actually and directly cook food instead of heating water. Ahhh - real food! On the trail no less! The Quietstove fits into the Dragonfly snugly after a good heating and stays pinched in place once cooled without randomly falling out. I did not need to change out or adjust any parts and the legs folded around the new configuration of the Quietstove without any adjustments. This was important since we often started dinner after dark and in the cold. I can remove the Quietstove from the Dragonfly easily with a bit of torque from my thumb for inspection or cleaning after a messy cook, but I stopped worrying about losing it almost immediately once I felt the snug embrace after a good heating and cooling cycle. My advice - Don't mess with it after it cools. Playing with the parts loosen them and cause them to disappear when you don't want them to. Heat it, cool it, and don't touch it unless you must.I had only one under burn (or whatever they call it when the flame collects under the stove instead of outside the burner where it is supposed to be). This was easily and instantly remedied because I read the warning and instructions before hitting the trail. None of us allowed it to happen again, Knowledge is power - and safety. Read the paperwork. This item works as advertised and for my allergy clogged ears, a blessing. If you have an MSR Dragonfly and don't care for the jet propelled roar - I can't recommend it highly enough. You will hear yourself think again. If you don't mind the noise of the factory oven, don't walk away yet. The Quietstove provides a better (IMO) and more uniform pattern of heat to the bottom of the pan. This allows you to maximize the unique purpose of the Dragonfly - to simmer. The standard diffusion plate did not spread the flame uniformly, which after a major $$ stove purchase designed to simmer, was disappointing. Yes the Quietstove was a pretty penny for what it is, but I believe I got everything I paid for and more. Bon Appetit!

MSR Dragonfly Upgrayedd
The media could not be loaded. This seems to be a great modification for my MSR Dragonfly stove!Installation was super easy. Flathead screwdriver to gently pry off two of the three prongs holding the splatter plate onto the stock Dragonfly burner. Take the Quiet Stove diffuser, line up the arrow with the fuel line, and drop into place. Mine was so loose, I was worried about it staying in place at first. After squaring it up and pressing firmly, I did a test-run of the stove to heat/cool all of the parts. The starting procedure isn't much different from what I'm already used to. Spitting/surging can be a problem with a lukewarm prime or a crusty fuel nozzle. Try tapping your stove on the ground gently during burning to knock loose any fuel nozzle deposits. Burn at medium power for a bit if it's spitting at full throttle. And definitely use the wind shield that came with the original stove. The burner is a larger area than the stock Dragonfly pinpoint burner, but the heat is less like a blowtorch, and more like a traditional gas range (susceptible to wind stealing heat)Additional notes:If you have the new diffuser installed flush and square, you can still manage to fold up the stove for storage as usual. But be careful upon re-opening the stove! If it binds up, don't force it. You may need to get the Quiet Stove diffuser re-seated properly again in order to open up the stove. It can be a very frustrating puzzle. I'd also advise some sort of leather glove/tongs/needlenose pliers in case you need to adjust the diffuser while hot. This style of stove is never going to be as quick as a JetBoil, but once you set it up, it's closer to a home range than any other small packable stove.

Thank-You Quiet Stove!
We have used the Quiet Stove for several months heavily under a variety of conditions (30C summer thru cold Canadian winter (sub -35C)) in both my Omni Fuel proper and Trangia Multi Fuel (modified with Omnifuel simmer control...beautiful combination in Trangia 25 & outback oven). The performance is exceptional and I would argue from our many days of use that it may actually improve the overall performance of the stove with better mixing and vaporization of white gas. It is true that you do need to prime stove a bit more (practical experience will dictate) but when primed the combustion is eloquent. Also of interest is that the flame is spread over a larger area which makes cooking with larger pots/ simmering more effective. My use ranges from high power snow melting, normal cooking (yes real cooking!) and we bake quite a bit. ( hard to match stargazing with fresh cinnamon buns ... but advise to get proficient in backyard before backcountry!). This stove services a family of 5 and is our only stove for backcountry hiking trips using 2-3L pots. It is nice to be able to chat at normal volume while making meals.I have used it with gasoline & diesel (to verify functionality, if required in time of need, and it does work, note be aware of the consequences of these fuels, burn it does, but get greedy on heat output and will be fighting joys of soot for a while). It works excellent as would expect with Primus Canisters (in all of these cases make the correct Jet adjustments!). An item to be aware of is that it does take a while for Quiet Stove to cool after intense use, be patient and don't repeat my mistake of being in a hurry & tossing it into snow to cool as it was a tedious task to get the oxidization out of the many flame holes. We have found nirvana. White gas performance to practically feed large crew and nearly the quiet bliss of our Trangia. thank-you Quiet stove!

QuietStove Silent MUTER Damper Cap (Simmer Cap)
QuietStove Silent MUTER Damper Cap for Camping and Backpacking Stoves,The quiet stove cap is a great addition for the Primus Omnifuel stove. I was considering selling my stove because as the stove comes out of the box it is only good for melting snow or boiling water, it does not simmer well. Now I have the Silent Cap (simmer cap) I will be using the stove a lot more.
