Vornado VMH10 Personal Metal Heater with 2 Heat Settings, Black

We bought our second VMH10 this month for use in our van. We had previously used one in our old camper while plugged into shore power, and it did a surprisingly good job of keeping the small camper warm at night. However, our new van will be running off of battery, so it's important to have a low power consumption. Unfortunately, when we plugged this one in we found that the heater is pulling 500 watts on low, instead of the advertised 375 watts. It's also pulling only 700 on high, instead of the advertised 750. I don't know why these numbers are off by so much, but the difference for us would mean not making it through the night on one charge. Sad, because this is otherwise a great little heater.

I love my little heater! I've had it for four months now and use it every day. I bought it when my last two space heaters died because their cords melted… after the second one I was terrified and searched high and low for the heater with no reviews about safety concerns, and this was the one of the very few I found! It's very quiet (but with a very high pitched electronic noise that most people can't hear like when you leave a TV on? I can't hear it if I put music on, so I don't mind it) and it puts out decent heat for being half the wattage of a normal space heater. Even the low setting puts out a reasonable but noticeably less amount of heat. It is VERY sensitive to potential obstructions/fire hazards, which I suppose is a good thing. All in all, I feel happy with my purchase!

I have two of these. Love 'em. Sturdy, quiet, cute, plenty of heat. And safe: no glowing coils, timer cut-off, tipping cut-off, overheating cut-off.The one flaw has to do with that last one. The overheating cut-off is a good feature. But it's way too sensitive. So, for example, the unit is cruising along, pumping out the heat, and you switch it off and on again. Nada. No heat. You have to shiver in the cold for 5-10 minutes, while it takes its sweet time before it deigns to run again. The unit is not overheated; the case is just warm to the touch. If it hadn't shut off -- like, because you changed it to a different wall socket or it timed out -- it would have kept running indefinitely.And sometimes the twitchy cut-off just turns the unit off more or less arbitrarily, even though there are no obstructions causing it to overheat.So, great little heater. Just don't turn it off and on again, unless you have a blanket handy!Update: I'm lowering my rating, because that "one flaw" is really, really annoying. The unit just won't stay on consistently, because it thinks it's overheating when it's not. Too bad, because otherwise it's a terrific little unit. Seems to me Vornado should offer to replace these faulty units.

I bought this for under my desk at work. I love that in a small space it's the perfect size and warmth (not hot). I gave it 4 stars because it doesn't come with a remote. I have to bend down under my desk to turn on and off. (Which is a pain) to get one with a remote you have to get the bigger heater (and more costly).

I read a lot of reviews on this particular item, most were not great.There was a warehouse deal for $10.69, so.. obviously I bit.This is a great heater. The talk about the smell is REAL. However, what exactly do you expect from a small item that puts out this kind of heat? Have any of you ever owned any sort of space heater? Out of the box?This cube stays not-hot externally, but the METAL grill in the front of the heater can obviously get hot.The Low/High/Off knob feels like it might break one day.It *could* be plugged into a smart plug and controlled this way, due to the way this knob works... but I would probably suggest against doing that with any item that could potentially burn your home down.For $11 this was a steal, please keep sending these back because they smell like hot.

The LED turns red, the safety switch clicks when lifting it off the table, but there is heat generated and the fan does not work!Update: I initiated the return procedure at Amazon, everything was ready and ... suddenly the heater started again!I don't know what happened, why it didn't wanted to function for a while, but I decided to keep it for a while and will return it later if it will not start in the future.Update 2/8/2021: I purchased three different Vornado fans and all of them will break after about one year!The heater element works but not the fan, making it also a safety hazard.

I ended up returning the heater. It wasn’t powerful enough to warm up the area around my desk in a cold basement office. The safety feature also turned it off pretty quickly and I typically had to turn it off manually and then turn it back on to get it going again.I might consider buying the whole room version, but was rather unimpressed.

It works as advertised. But there is a problem with the industrial design. The controls are on the top, HIGH and LOW in hair-thin lettering on a shiny dial. One learns to remember where the controls are, but it is annoying. Must have been a very young designer because 1. inexperience and a lack of awareness of the fact that many people can't see small text, especially as they age. And I don't believe this is a product just for young people.I can make out the lettering if I squint, but my mother, who is in her 90s, really can't use the controls at all.

I've had to deal with inadequate central heat in places. I tried various portables. This one is quiet and gives off heats that is effective. It also is in a rugged metal case and the fan is very effective.
